Junk food provides little nutritional value for fueling a workout. No muscle and fitness training can bring results unless combined with a healthy diet built around lean proteins, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and good polyunsaturated fats.

About Ronny Rockel : Ronny Rockel is an IFBB professional bodybuilder from Germany. Ronny Rockel was born and raised in Germany. Like many other professional bodybuilders from Europe such as Milos Sarcev and Pavol Jablonicky, Rockel grew up under communist rule.

Because of this Rockel was not aware of bodybuilding and other things of the outside world. This soon changed in 1989 when the Berlin Wall was taken down.

At seventeen years of age, 143 pounds decided that he wanted a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger's after seeing the film Conan the Barbarian, but at the time commercial gyms in his hometown of Chemnitz, East Germany, were non existent.

Instead of abandoning his interest in bodybuilding, he created his own weight set. Following the demise of communism, entrepreneurial activities in the East of Germany spawned and with that the first gym opened in Ronny's hometown. He soon joined and began absorbing information about diet and weight training from other members and fitness magazines.

At his first competition, the Hessian Championships, he placed last in his class. But he did not become discouraged, he came back a year later and won the 1995 NABBA German Nationals and placed third at the NABBA Mr. Universe. From then Rockel decided that he had the potential to become a professional bodybuilder. It was not until 2002 that Ronny Rockel achieved professional status by winning the International German Championships.

 After this victory he won a contract with a nutritional company and relocated with his girlfriend to Venice, California for some time while competing.

About Robby Robinson : Robby Robinson (born May 24, 1946) is an American former bodybuilder who won the IFBB Mr. America, Mr. World and Mr. Universe titles.

He was the Masters Olympia overall champion the first year that the event was held in 1994 and then went on to win the 50+ division at that same contest in both 1997 and 2000. His nickname is The Black Prince. Robinson was born in Damascus, Georgia, and raised in Tallahassee, Florida.

He attended Florida A&M University, where he competed in both football and track & field. While training for those sports he noticed his body's great responsiveness to weight training, which motivated him to enter his first bodybuilding competition. After competing in more than 300 amateur competitions, Robinson turned professional in 1975.

Although it was to be his only exposure to the movie screen, Robby's first professional year in 1975 was chronicled in the cult classic Pumping Iron.

 Overall, he won numerous IFBB contests, including the first annual Night of the Champions in 1979 as well as the first Masters Olympia in 1994. As one of the famed Golden Age of Bodybuilding' bodybuilders who routinely worked out at Gold's Gym in Venice, California during the 70s, Robby was known as one who was never in off-season condition. Superbly built head-to-toe, his massive and extremely peaked arms became his trademark.

 It was noted in Arnold Schwarzenegger's book "The Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding", that Robinson has one biceps bigger than the other. Robinson sat for an exclusive "Legends of Bodybuilding" interview conducted by Rod Labbe in mid-2010.

The interview, which included current photographs of Robinson, ran in the January 2011 edition of Iron Man magazine. "A masterful piece of work," Robinson said. "I don't think I've ever done a better interview."

About Steve Reeves : Stephen L. Reeves (January 21, 1926 – May 1, 2000) was an American bodybuilder and actor. At the peak of his career, he was the highest-paid actor in Europe. After his military service, Reeves invested in an acting career.

In 1954 he had a small role in his first major motion picture, the musical Athena playing the boyfriend of Jane Powell's character. The same year Reeves had a small role as a cop in the Ed Wood film Jail Bait. These two films are the only ones Reeves made where his own voice was used — for the remainder of his career, Reeves acted in Italian-made films where all dialogue and sound effects were added in post-production.

On December 17, 1954, Reeves guest starred in the ABC sitcom with a variety show theme, The Ray Bolger Show. Ray Bolger portrayed Raymond Wallace, a song-and-dance man repeatedly barely on time for his performances. Reeves played a well-built office employee whom Wallace sees in the company of Wallace's girlfriend, Susan, played by Marjie Millar.

Others on the series were Richard Erdman, Allyn Joslyn, Betty Lynn, Sylvia Lewis, Gloria Winters, and Verna Felton. In 1957, Reeves went to Italy and played the lead character in Pietro Francisci's Hercules, a relatively low-budget epic based loosely on the tales of Jason and the Argonauts, though inserting Hercules into the lead role.

 The film was a major box-office success, grossing $5m in the United States alone in 1959. Its commercial success led to a 1959 sequel Hercules Unchained. From 1959 through 1964, Reeves went on to appear in a string of sword and sandal movies shot on relatively small budgets, and although he is best known for his portrayal of Hercules, he played the character only twice: in the 1958 film and its 1959 sequel Hercules Unchained (released in the US in 1960).

He played a number of other characters on screen, including Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton's Glaucus of Pompeii; Goliath, the bane of the barbarians (actually called Emiliano in the Italian version); Tatar hero Hadji Murad; Romulus, the legendary founder of Rome (opposite Gordon Scott as his twin brother Remus); Pheidippides, the famous war-time messenger of the Battle of Marathon; pirate and self-proclaimed governor of Jamaica, Captain Henry Morgan; and Karim, the fabled Thief of Baghdad. Twice he played Aeneas of Troy and twice he played Emilio Salgari's Malaysian hero, Sandokan.

After the box office success of Hercules, Reeves turned down the role that finally went to Clint Eastwood in A Fistful of Dollars (1964) because he could not believe that "Italians could make a western". He also claimed to have turned down the James Bond role in Dr. No (1962).

Mr. Reeves mentions in an interview that he was offered only $100,000 to play Secret Agent 007, whereas he was earning $250,000 per film in Italy, and as such was tied with Sophia Loren as the highest paid actor in Europe at the time; thus he turned down the role of James Bond to continue making pepla in Italy.

During the filming of The Last Days of Pompeii, Reeves dislocated his shoulder when his chariot slammed into a tree. Swimming in a subsequent underwater escape scene, he re-injured his shoulder. The injury would be aggravated by his stunt work in each successive film, ultimately leading to his retirement from filmmaking and weightlifting.

In 1968 Reeves appeared in his final film, a spaghetti western that imitated the Sergio Leone epics, which he also co-wrote, titled I Live For Your Death! (later released as A Long Ride From Hell). His last screen appearance was in 2000 when he appeared as himself in the made-for-television A&E Biography: Arnold Schwarzenegger - Flex Appeal. In July 1997, Steve was interviewed by freelance writer, Rod Labbe. Entitled "Demi-god on Horseback," it ran as the cover story in "Films of the Golden Age" magazine #65, dated Summer 2011.

About Shawn Ray : Shawn Ray (born September 9, 1965 in Placentia, California, U.S.) is a former professional bodybuilder and author,not to be confused with Shawn E. Ray,the former professional soccer player with the highest Goalkeeper winning percentage in Dallas Sidekicks history.

In over 30 major bodybuilding competitions, Ray only failed to place in the top five once. Signing his first professional bodybuilding sponsor contract in 1988, Ray has been featured in six video documentaries; Lifestyles of the Fit & Famous (Biopic), Final Countdown (Contest Prep for Olympia 1998), Inside & Out- Behind the Muscle, a look at his daily life on the Pro Circuit, To The Extreme (Training Video) Best of Shawn Ray ( History of Shawn Ray).

 "Fitness After 40" which is a biographical and documentary instyle, showcases Shawn's life after the competitive stage being married with his first child while getting back on the Horse and getting in shape. He is mentioned in The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding by Bill Dobbins and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Ray also wrote a book about how to become a bodybuilder, named The Shawn Ray Way. Ray has appeared on more Flex Magazine covers than any bodybuilder in history and has also featured in many fitness and bodybuilding magazines worldwide.

Shawn was a co-host on Flex Magazine Workout on ESPN for 5 years as well as hosting bodybuilding competitions for ESPN as a commentator for 8 years. Shawn was the Co-Master of Ceremonies for the 2006 and 2007 Mr. Olympia Competitions held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Shawn is the creator of the only charity fundraiser for professional bodybuilding, Vyo Tech Nutritionals presents: Shawn Ray's CHOC Hospital Golf Invitational. Over the last two year's with the help of other pro fitness, figure and bodybuilding champions, as well as supplement companies and magazines, Shawn has helped raise and donate over $55,000.00 to the Children's Hospital of Orange County by hosting this event annually at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda, Ca.

He placed in the top five at the Mr. Olympia competition for twelve consecutive years from 1990 to 2001, two of those being first runner-up finishes. Shawn also produced a DVD titled 'Fitness after 40' in which Shawn tries to get back into shape. Shawn is now a Feature Writer for Muscular Development Magazine and the Host of MD Radio and MDTV as an Interviewer. He is also making a video documentary called Evolution of Bodybuilding - The Movie.

About Tom Prince : Tom Prince (born October 26, 1969 Virginia) is a retired American professional bodybuilder. Prince won his IFBB pro card by winning the 1997 NPC National Championships (his only overall title). His highest professional placing was the 2001 Night of Champions, where he finished third.

About Tom Platz : Thomas Steven Platz (born June 26, 1955 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma) is a retired professional bodybuilder. His nicknames are "The Golden Eagle" and "Quadzilla". Tom Platz began his competitive bodybuilding career in the 1973 Mr. Adonis competition.

He competed as an amateur until he won the 1978 World Amateur Championships middleweight division. In 1978 he moved to California; he arrived there with $50, a plane ticket, and a dream to win Mr. Olympia. For the following nine years Platz competed as a pro aiming for the most prestigious bodybuilding title there is, Mr. Olympia.

Though Platz never took first at the Olympia he had a string of top ten finishes, with a third position in 1981 being the best. Platz became famous for his remarkable leg development. He developed a high intensity, high volume method of leg training, which led to his unparalleled size and definition for his time.

Regardless of what was found lacking elsewhere, it is still widely claimed in bodybuilding circles that Platz holds the mark for the best legs in bodybuilding of his time and some of the best legs in bodybuilding ever. Flex readers agree: In a "best bodyparts of the 20th century" poll, Platz was deemed to have the best quads and hamstrings of all time.

Tom Platz retired from professional bodybuilding competition in 1987 and did a 'Comeback' in 1995 when he was awarded Honorary Mr. America. He still promotes the sport wholeheartedly. Tom says, "I just want to give back to the sport I love which has been really great to me." 

He played the part of "Body Builder" in the 1990 film Book of Love. His character portrayed the Charles Atlas-like character from those "tired of bullies kicking sand in your face and stealing your girlfriend" type of advertisements that were in a lot of comic books during the 50's and 60's. Tom Platz was and is one of the most sought after guest speakers in the world of bodybuilding, nutrition and general fitness. He is currently a Professor and Director of Bodybuilding Sciences at ISSA.

Tom has a Masters in Fitness Science, Bachelors in Science Physiology and Nutrition from Wayne State University and Michigan State University, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of California. Platz now lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, on the TPC golf course, and supplements his income working as a salesman at Airpark Chrysler Jeep.

About Harold Poole : Harold Poole (b. December 25, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky) is a former AAU, IFBB and WBBG professional bodybuilder. Poole's athleticism was apparent very early on.

He was quarterback on his footballl team at Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, placed fourth in the state high school wrestling championships, ran 440 yards in 50 seconds and put the 12 pound shot 55 feet. In 1960, Poole entered the AAU Mr. America and, at the age of 16, took 18th place.

His final AAU teen opportunity came in June 1963, where he won most muscular, but was the runner-up to Vern Weaver.

Three months later, Poole switched to the IFBB and, at age 19, he won the Mr. Universe. The next year, he became the first African-American to be named IFBB Mr. America.

Starting in 1965, Poole became the only man to compete in the first three Mr. Olympia contests. He retired from bodybuilding competition following the 1982 IFBB Night Of Champions where he placed out of the top 10.

 Today he currently lives in New York where he continues to train with weights and practice Martial Arts. He was inducted to the IFBB Hall of Fame in 2004 and the WBBG Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2008 Harold was voted the Greatest Teenage Bodybuilder of All-Time.

About Tony Pearson : Tony Pearson (born January 11, 1957 in Memphis, Tennessee) grew up in St. Louis, Missouri is an American bodybuilding champion. In 1976 at the age of nineteen he moved to California to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder.

He headed straight to the "Mecca of Body Building" Venice Beach where he was discovered by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who became his mentor. Later Arnold featured him in his first Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding.

Pearson was known to have the best shoulder to Waist ratio in bodybuilding. His Bodybuilding career began to take flight as he worked his way through the Amateur Competitive ranks in 1978 Winning the (AAU) Mr. Los Angeles, Jr. Mr. USA, Jr. Mr. America, Mr. California (short) and (AAU) Mr. America, the second youngest to win Mr. America.

Other bodybuilding competitions that he has won during his career the 1979 (WBBG) Professional Mr. World, (WABBA) World Championships, the 1980 Universe (Professional). After conquering the individual aspect of competition, the more dramatic style of couples competition appealed to his artistic side.

Combining his stage charisma with the dance of two finely tuned physiques worked well to his advantage. In an unprecedented winning streak, he won six ( IFBB ) Professional World Mixed-pairs titles with four different partners in 1982 and '83 ( Shelley Gruwell ), '84 (Carla Dunlap ), ' 85 ( Tina Plakinger ), '86 ( Juliette Bergmann ) and '88 (Carla Dunlap ). In 1991-92, he competed in the (WBF) World Bodybuilding Federation shows launched by Wresting mogul Vince McMahon.

They dubbed him the "JETMAN". In 2007 he was inducted into the Muscle Beach Bodybuilding Hall of Fame. In 2010 at the age of fifty-three he made a return to the Stage Guest posing with his former Mixed Pairs partner Juliette Bergmann at the "Juliette Bergmann BodyBuilding Classic" in Holland.

About Bill Pearl : William Arnold "Bill" Pearl (born October 31, 1930) is an American former bodybuilder during the 1950s and '60s. He won many titles and awards, including winning the Mr. Universe contest five times, and was named "World’s Best-Built Man of the Century." 

He became an expert trainer and author on bodybuilding. Pearl was born in Prineville, Oregon. His first major victory was in the 1953 Amateur Mr Universe contest (in which he beat out a then 23-year-old Sean Connery). He actively competed until his retirement in 1971 after winning the Mr. Universe one last time, over superstars Frank Zane, Reg Park and Sergio Oliva.

In all, he won the professional Mr Universe 4 times in an 18 year span, which was unprecedented at the time. He was the first professional bodybuilder to author bodybuilding training courses/booklets. He is also the first to pose to music, and was especially noted in performing exhibitions doing an entire posing routine of Eugene Sandow (who is known as the man who invented bodybuilding).

Ever the showman, along with his lifelong coach Leo Stern, Pearl would wear a fake mustache, leotards, a fig leaf, and a late-19th century backdrop, all for providing the exact effect of the Sandow era. As if that wasn't enough, Pearl was equally as famous for performing his strongman routine, which included tearing of license plates, bending penny spike nails, and blowing up a hot water bottle.

 He is the author of the popular exercise book, Getting Stronger: Weight Training for Men and Women, which has sold over 350,000 copies in the United States and has been translated into four other languages, including Chinese. His book Keys To The INNER Universe, is still to this day considered to be a "must read" for bodybuilders. It contains 1,500 weight-training exercises and weighs five pounds.

It is used extensively by professional athletes, trainers and serious bodybuilders and has sold over 60,000 copies. Pearl had his own monthly question-and-answer column called "Pearl of the Universe" in the bodybuilding magazine MuscleMag International as well as one in Muscle Builder (later Muscle & Fitness) magazine, entitled "Wisdom of Pearl" in the 1970s & 1980s. In 2003 with coauthor Kim Shott, Pearl published his autobiography, Beyond the Universe: The Bill Pearl Story.

Pearl became a vegetarian at age 39 and is the best-known vegetarian bodybuilder. Bill's diet is lacto-ovo vegetarian, which means he eats eggs and dairy products. During the 1980s, Pearl served as a mentor, trainer, and training partner to many of the top professionals that were still competing.

One such individual was Mr. Olympia, Chris Dickerson. In 2004, Pearl was awarded the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Lifetime Achievement Award for significantly impacting the world of bodybuilding. In 2011 Pearl appeared in the documentary Challenging Impossibility (film) describing when he hosted the 2004 strength exhibition by spiritual teacher and peace advocate Sri Chinmoy. The film was an Official Selection of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Pearl is 5' 9" tall. He currently lives in Phoenix, Oregon.
